All we’ve heard about these past few months is the people fleeing the city, desperately searching for pastures green, country walks and a view of blue skies over concrete sky scrapers. Few people have taken the time to discuss all the reasons why London during Lockdown really wasn’t and still isn’t a bad place to be.
In fact – I would go as far as to admit – it has been pretty good!
Firstly, exercising in Central London became a real pleasure, from sprinting up and down the backstreets of St James, to having Hyde Park to myself – making full use of the spaces I wouldn’t normally venture due to tourists meant I rediscovered the city. Hidden flower gardens, gorgeous treelined streets – even with my daily 1 hour walk, I don’t think I walked the same street twice!
Secondly, the discovery of our fabulous independent shops. All too often I would succumb to the easy life – Leon’s, Pret, I almost forgot what great coffee tasted like. Thank goodness for these brave and wonderful businesses that remained open to support the locals of the Central London. From Café 49 in Marchmont St Bloomsbury, to Duck and Rice delivering their delicious food straight to our front door. Hankies in Marble Arch and one of Greater London Properties favourites, Vasco and Piero’s Italian, Soho - possibly the best pasta in Central London! All finding new interesting ways to serve our local community, keeping us safe, whilst trying to stay open and keep in business.
Central London needs our support more than ever, the independent high streets depend on customer loyalty and our support. If you would like to share your business with the local community, log on and join the
Central London Lockdown Support Network on Facebook, and please help spread the word.
