Things to do in London this Christmas

It is that time of year again when we want to have a great time with our friends and family and yet we have to take precautions. We don’t want to put a damper on the festive cheer and therefore we have compiled some ideas that you can this Christmas holiday. Whether it is chilling at home watching some good movies, in a buzzing pub, in a theatre or just outside enjoying some fresh air, there is definitely something for everyone!

We understand most of you are keen to spend some time outside instead of being cooped up at home and we wholeheartedly agree. Why not try some takeaway mulled wine and support our local pubs in the area such as Shakespeare Head in Carnaby, Kings Head London near the Royal Academy of Arts and All Bar One Holborn? Or how about vising a snug winter terrace with a group of friends at FLORA at Joy in Ladbroke Grove, Hawk’s Nest in Shepherd’s Bush and winter igloos at the Aviary in Moorgate?

At this time of year, the Christmas markets are a sight to see and if you haven’t done your Christmas shopping yet then why not kill two birds with one stone? The Chelsea Christmas Lights in Sloane Street, Duke of York Square and Sloane Square will have everything from a festive food market to Christmas cocktails. Christmas by the River near Tower Bridge is a beautiful market with scenic view of the River Thames and over 60 traders selling gourmet treats, handmade gifts, mulled wine and craft beers. Last but not least, our favorite one is the Christmas Canopy Market at King’s Cross which is open every day until the 22nd of December and each week there is a different theme filled with special events, seasonal masterclasses, workshops and tastings.

If you are not in the mood to go out and just want to spend some time indoors as the weather gets colder, why not watch some feel good films? How about Easy A a film if you like teen comedies with jokes and skewed morals: it is about a straight-A student who taps into the school’s rumor mill to increase her social clout and for financial gain. If you have younger children, maybe Kiki’s Delivery Service may interest you. It is a whimsical tale about a young witch coming to age in Scandinavia and her sassy talking cat making friends. If you want a more stirring story what about The Farewell- centers on a Chinese-American girl traveling to China to say goodbye to her grandmother and instead unfolds into a family finding vibrant life even as death looms. These are all available on Netflix.

How about going to the theatre? In this festive season there are many classics such as the Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall and The Christmas Carol at the Old Vic. There are also many modern plays such as Aladdin at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre, a pantomime Dick Whittington at the New Wimbledon Theatre and many more!

Whatever you do this Christmas holiday we hope you have a fantastic time and we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

 Warmest Regards
